- 1 Escort Required
- Pilot car not needed for loads ≤ 16 feet in width if equipped with a lighted rotating or flashing amber light visible for 500 feet.
- No pilot car needed on four-lane divided highways for loads ≤ 16 feet in width.

Width > 18’
- Highway Patrol Escort: Required as determined by the regional commander(s), in addition to private pilot car escorts.
- Coordination needed with regional commander(s) before moving.

Police Escorts:
Highway Patrol escorts may be required for loads exceeding 18 feet in overall width, as determined by the NDHP district commander.
Superloads:
Loads are classified as superloads if they exceed any of the following dimensions: 18 feet wide, 18 feet high, 250,000 pounds in weight, or 200 feet long. Trunnion axles ranging from 45,000 to 60,000 pounds are considered on a special request basis only.
